Hate cold weather? Me too. Try this easy DIY essential oil warming salve on your cold hands and feet. It’s going to help make winter more bearable this year. Cold weather is not my friend. If it were up to me I’d have moved to the tropics a decade ago.
Like I said, I hate cold weather, so I just had to do something to make warming up a little bit easier!
And when I say that it this DIY essential oil warming salve is easy to make, I really do mean it. It will take you about 5 minutes to complete this simple mixture that will warm up hands and feet for an entire season. Once it’s complete, you only need a to use little bit around your cold hands and feet, and rub it right in. Then you can also put on your socks and gloves for extra warmth and get outside. By the way, it works on noses and ears too!
Before we start, note that there are a lot of oils in this mixture. It’s okay if you are missing a couple of the ingredients. You can simply adjust the number of drops of the other oils to accommodate.
Easy DIY Essential Oil Warming Salve for Cold Hands and Feet
¼ Cup Coconut Oil
¾ Cup Shea Butter
(Organic ingredients are preferred. You can click on the links above to see that brands I use.)
15 Drops Goldenrod
15 Drops Helichrysum
15 Drops Ylang Ylang
10 Drops Lemon
8 Drops Copaiba
8 Drops Clove
8 Drops Marjoram
8 Drops Black Pepper (Optional)
8 Drops Geranium (Optional)
8 Drops Ginger (Optional)
8 Drops Nutmeg (Optional)
8 Drops Rosemary (Optional)
As I’ve mentioned here before, I prefer to use Young Living essential oils for their attention to purity.
Goldenrod, Helichrysum, Ylang Ylang and Lemon essential oils are the primary ingredients because they are commonly used for circulation support. I went with slightly less Lemon essential oil simply because it is photosensitive. If you will definitely be putting on gloves after using this warming salve, you may add more Lemon.
Copaiba is one of my absolute favorite oils and often used for physical discomfort. So is Clove essential oil. Marjoram was added because is an important essential oil in the Raindrop Technique and can be used in massage after exercise.
* Warm the coconut oil and shea butter on very low level heat for 1-2 minutes while stirring. If you have a very small wisk you can use that to blend the oil and shea butter.
* Add in the essential oils and stir until well blended. Do not be concerned if there are still a few small clumps in the mixture.
* Pour into a wide-mouth container such as a wide-mouthed mason jar or a small glass bowl and cover tightly. You can also put some of it into tiny pot containers like these (that I also used to make lip balms) to carry with you in a purse or pocket, or even to keep in your glove compartment.
